Joanna (Maynard) McIntosh, 71, died Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at her home on Canterbury Road.
Born September 20, 1938 in Concord, Joanna was the daughter of Lester A. and Emma M. (Parks) Maynard. She was a 1956 graduate of Concord High School and had served on its Class Reunion Committee. A 50-year resident of Chichester, she moved there from Concord in 1960.
Joanna had owned and operated The Kozy Kitten Day Care out of her home for many years. In fact, her day care goes back to over 45 years. As a result, she was known as “Grammy McIntosh” to many of the community’s children as well as adults. She also worked for James Piper Insurance and Newton Insurance Co.
Joanna was active with the Concord Coach Square Dancers, the Eastern Star - Priscilla Chapter of Penacook, Ladies of the Moose - Concord Chapter and the Anchor Club. In addition, she was a member and past president of the PTA, a 4-H cooking teacher, and one of the founders of the Chichester Snow Packers.
She was also very active in town affairs, serving as a Cemetery Trustee, a long-term member of the Planning Board, as well as Ballot Clerk for several years.
She enjoyed the beach and spent as much time there as possible. She loved her cats and her Mustang convertible. She also loved to walk and could be seen most days, regardless of the weather, walking Canterbury Road.
Joanna was predeceased by her husband, Lewis McIntosh in 1994. She is survived by sons, Mark McIntosh of Chichester, Craig McIntosh of Allenstown, and Brent McIntosh of Pembroke; grandchildren, Evan McIntosh and his wife Christy of Concord, Kelly McIntosh of Concord, Allison and Abby McIntosh of Chichester, Brooke and Kara McIntosh of Pembroke; and many step-grandchildren. Joanna also leaves her long-time partner, Ellis Ring of Chichester and Northwood, and her extended family, Richard Arell, Walter Sword, George Hilliard, Alice Hilliard, and Susan King.
